Ceol an ghrá

The music of love

Éistigí, éistigí, cloisim arís é, ceol an ghrá Listen, listen, I hear it again, the music of love
'Seo nó ansúid dom, bíonn sé de shíor liom, ceol an ghrá Here or beyond me, it's eternally with me, the music of love
I lár na cathrach breá, cois abhainn nó ar trá In the centre of the lovely city, beside the river or on the beach
Cloisim an tiún, is tú mo rún, sin ceol an ghrá I hear the tune, you are my sweetheart, that's the music of love

Éistigí, éistigí, cloisim arís é, ceol an ghrá Listen, listen, I hear it again, the music of love
Canann an t-éinín é, casann an ghaoth dom é, ceol an ghrá The little bird sings it, the wind plays it for me, the music of love
Maidin nó lár an lae, cloisim i gcónaí é Morning or midday, I always hear it
Éist leis an túin, is tú mo rún, sin ceol an ghrá Listen to the tune, you are my sweetheart, that's the music of love

Seo Tír na nÓg is tá sciatháin in áit mo chos This is the Land of Eternal Youth and wings are in place of my legs
Anois is go deo tá an sonas romham, thall is abhus Now and forever happiness is before me, all around
Is tú, mo chroí de lá is d'oích' You are my sweetheart by day and by night
Is gach uile nóiméad de'm' shaol And every single moment of my life

Éistigí, éistigí, cloisim arís é, ceol an ghrá Listen, listen, I hear it again, the music of love
'Seo nó ansúid dom, bíonn sé de shíor liom, ceol an ghrá Here or beyond me, it's eternally with me, the music of love
I lár na cathrach breá, cois abhainn nó ar trá In the centre of the lovely city, beside the river or on the beach
Cloisim an tiún, is tú mo rún, sin ceol an ghrá I hear the tune, you are my sweetheart, that's the music of love

Translation by Barry Hennessy & Seamus Kennedy.

"Mo chroí" and "mo rún" literally mean "my heart" and "my secret", but both are used as a term of affection ("my sweetheart").
  • Land of Eternal Youth - in Irish mythology, a place beyond the edges of the map, where sickness and death do not exist, and where music, strength, life and all pleasurable pursuits come together in a single place.
